Excerptsfrom Lord of Misrule...
Katie had never complained, no matter how cold it got, or how hungry she was, even when they weren't sure they'd find their way back to civilization. They must have traveled a hundred miles on foot, with only the vaguest idea of where they were, and how to get where they were going. They'd fought a blizzard and outlaws together. And when he'd just about given up hope, she'd offered herself to him, because she loved him.
She'd been stronger than most men he'd known. More determined. And a hell of a lot prettier.
She was his wife, and he loved her.
But would she love him, now that she was where she could be reminded of how easy her life could be?
from The Snass Chuck...
Then Mrs. Jarlsburg pulled out her hole card. "It isn't safe to ride out there at night. There's Snass Chucks up in those hills.
"Snass Chucks?" Mildred and I chorused. "What are Snass chucks?" I'd been there since September and I hadn't heard anything about the critters. Mildred had taught at Smithy's Corners School for two years and she obviously had never heard of them, either.
"They're big and gray and everywhere. And they have slimy wet fingers that reach out and grab you and run right down inside you raincoat."
"Did they ever grab you?" Mildred asked.
from Keeper of Secrets...
"Can I lead for a while? I like to walk a little faster."
Stunned, he watched her cute little ass disappear around the bend in the trail. And here he had deliberately slowed down out of consideration and she didn't even appreciate it! Probably thought he was a real wimp. Bloody hell. "Hey!" He sprang forward and caught up with her in no time, then decided that second position wasn't so bad. "Since you know so much about me," he said, as he eyed the wonderful symmetry of her hips, "tell me something about you."
from A Midnight Clear...
She threw the covers back and got out of bed. She wondered if Jake was still up, and what he was doing. She wanted to see him, right now, with a yearning so strong it almost doubled her over.
She needed to feel his arms around her. She'd felt so safe there. Safe, and fully alive, animated with a strange new excitement.
Foolish, it would be so very foolish to get involved with Jake Lazarra! Soon her property would be sold, and she'd be on her way south to a new life. It was time she grew up and made sensible decisions. She had to stop making decisions based on emotions and misplaced idealism.
That kiss was a dangerous mistake. It was one she couldn't afford to repeat if she wanted to stay on track with her plans.
from A Ring for Christmas...
"You're young, sweetie..." Her eyes were wild with panic. But why panic?
"Young, old, it doesn't matter. How I feel about you is what matters. That and how you feel about me. You won't say it, but I know you love me."
"You can't know that!"
"Of course I can! And now, I'm finally at a point where I can do something about it. I can give you this." He pulled the jewelry box out of his pocket and thrust it into her hand.
This wasn't the romantic proposal he'd planned, but maybe it was more to the point.
Anyway, it got the idea across.
ReviewsMargaret Ohmes for Affaire de Coeur magazine, 5 stars...
"This beautifully written anthology truly has something for everyone. A delightful read for the holidays that you won't want to miss."
JoAnn for Fallen Angels Reviews, 4 angels...
"Each story in this anthology had its own unique characteristics. They all put this reviewer into the Christmas spirit. All six stories bring us a remarkable tale of love. In Lord of Misrule we have not only love but also the beginning of a marriage. As any person who has ever been married before knows first holidays with in-laws is never as easy as it seems. The Snass Chuck had this reviewer laughing throughout the whole story. Tillie is definitely a memorable character. Keeper of the Secrets brought us to people who really thought they were seeking solitude, but in all reality they were seeking a new beginning. In A Midnight Clear Sophie is looking for a new start in life, but sometimes, as she learns, we are not always looking in the right places. This reviewer loved Sophie's teaching methods and praises any teacher who could capture a class as Sophie did. Ramiro in A Delightful Christmas definitely needed an attitude adjustment and this reviewer was happy to see Shawnie put him in his place. A Ring for Christmas had two remarkable characters. Each having very sound reasons for the decisions they started out with, but in the end love will conquer all. This reviewer definitely recommends starting off your holiday season with the Anthology Northwest Tales of the Season. There is nothing better to get you into the Christmas spirit than a very good holiday read."
Pam for A Romance Review, 4 roses...
"With the variety of stories offered in Northwest Tales of The Season you will find one or two that will make you laugh, feel the pain and sorrow, and the triumph that love prevails over all."
